Design Method 3--BABA NYONYA RESEARCH~

yup~

our home assignment is to go and research BABA NYONYA.

I still remember lecturer teach us that, researching can be focus in different channels and medias.

Last Friday whole MM085-1 had a NICE trip to Malacca to visit the Baba Nyonya Museum.

It let me learn a lot, know a lot about the Baba nyonya.

I have a different cognitive about baba nyonya.

actually, they won't use chopstick to have their meal, they used to use hand.

actually, cendol and ABC was made by them, and also asam laksa.

actually, they speak malay wear malay but their culture more follow chinese.

actually, they can eat pork, they are not Muslim or malay.

actually, the design of their architecture is very DAMN nice, I love it very much~~^^

and also got a lot actually after I explore or research more on Baba Nyonya.

I learn a lot.

In addition to visit to Malacca and do a lot research through internet, I also spend quite a lot of time to watch a drama from singapore called "the little nyonya".

Whole drama is talking about a nyonya life.

Whole drama is full of Baba Nyonya culture, impact and interesting.

So, I decided to show some information which is from this drama, and actually we won't get these informations from other channels or places.(maybe got but i din realize?)

first, is the lantern from baba nyonya. these few pics is i printscreen from the drama.

information about Lantern of Baba Nyonya:

lantern is made with white cotton, after many years then just become yellowish.
in chinese, they believe that put sky lantern in front of their house got meaning of "add more child", because "天灯” sounds like "添丁”, so Baba also got sky lantern but is in round shape. Their lantern which is being hang in front of their house is in cylindrical shape, and they write their surname on it.
Other than surname, they also will paint some painting on backside of the lantern, "八仙图" and “仙女下凡图”. "八仙图" represents men, the lantern with this painting on it actually will be hang on at left side of the main door. "仙女下凡图” represents women, lantern with this painting on it will be hang on at right side of the main door.
most of the lanterns, the surname on it actually looks like "X府", except "wong" surname, "王”, they just can only write "王" but not "王府", because “王府” means the house of the emperor.

Project Definition
In this project, I am going to redesign a commercial website which is given by lecturer not randomly--website of PAPPARICH Restaurant in Malaysia(www.papparich.com.my). We need to find out the problems or which part we need to improve it, to make it more attractive and can let the audience feels like want to go there to have a meal after go through the website. Means I need to re-brand it. We are given 8 weeks to finish this project, includes at least 8 pages of design and coding.

Current Site's Analysis Goals

need to be more consistency in every page, especially the position of navigation bar, and the art direction or art-style.
the menu page maybe can be more interesting rather than full words in 1 page.
can put more description of each images in events page.
apply interesting content.
can update some latest events in front page.
apply an interesting layout design to attract audience, maybe can add on some animation?
can be more user friendly
art-style can be more on Malaysian identity.

Client's Analysis
Background
According to my research, PappaRich was established in 2006 with the opening of its first PappaKopitiam in Selayang Mall. PappaRich is PappaKopitiam all grown up; today it has over 29 outlets in the Klang Valley under the brand of PappaRich and is beginning to emerge as a formidable player in the local food and beverage chain.

The popularity of its cafe is attributed largely to the introduction of food which are all-time favourites such as freshly-baked bread and buns, the traditional toast with kaya and butter, nasi lemak, fried kuey teow, curry laksa, asam laksa, chicken rice, prawn mee, cendul, ice kacang etc, all available at affordable prices and prepared with the freshest ingredients and in its original flavour and taste.

In addition to its fresh food, it also offers the choice of excellent coffee to its patrons. The green beans are imported from the best in Africa, South America, Hawaii and Indonesia. The same coffee is served in leading hotels, restaurants and reputable retail outlets in Singapore.

Unique Selling Point
Their unique selling point is the traditional food in Malaysia such as cafe, coffee, nasi lemak, roti kaya and so on. Based on this concept, their package will be more on Southeast Asian style.

Short and Long Term Site Goals
Short
Increase the hit rates, maybe design the interactive part more interesting to let the audience keep visiting this website.
Long
To build up a well-relationship between the company and users or customers, confidence and trust from the customers, make sure their will come back or continue supporting the company.

Target Audience

primary target audience are those working people which are between 25-40 years old.
A family or a group of friends is also considered as part of main target audience.
middle to high income is more available.
teenagers between 17-25 years old who can handle their way of using money nicely.

Competitor's Analysis

The primary competitor is those high class local brand restaurant such as Old Town. Old Town has the same concept with Papparich which is providing local traditional foods with higher prices compare to normal Chinese restaurant. But, they have a very nice website layout design; compare to Papparich website, Old Town’s website is more attractive and successful to promote their things even make more audience feel like want to have a meal in their restaurant. Their advertisement is also very successful.

The secondary competitors are those normal Chinese restaurant which are having a cheaper prices compare to Papparich. So, those who want to save their money will go to these restaurant rather than Papparich. So, want to have more customers, Papparich might have some special advertisement, promotion, and also a attractive website design to attract more people go their restaurant.

WEB DESIGN 2--Redesign Website

In this short sem, we are required to be more professional in doing or creating our project, treat our project like what we will do for our clients in future. So, although it is a short sem, but actually not that relax as well.
In WEB DESIGN 2, our final project is about redesign our client's website which is chosen unluckily...hehehe...my client is PAPPARICH, a restaurant in Malaysia. I need to redesign their website by solving the problems in their website.
Here I will post some screen shorts of their website.

problems should be solved:
1. navigation bar in each page is not consistency and the design is too simple.
2. overall color mood and art style is not match with their theme.
3. there is no title in each page.
4. no hierarchy in each page, either the images or paragraph.
5. Menu page is very messy, make the audience no more mood to continue reading.

Weather Forecast Design

Yup, weather forecast design...our Typography final big big big project...
In this project, we have to design a weather forecast, to make it have a new look, not just like what u see in TV, a group of numbers, a sun or a cloud...thats all...
We are required to design it as creative as we can, as much different with normal look as we can...

So, here is my final outcome. We need to design it in FLASH so it will have some motion or animation, but here i just put the jpeg of each design.

First one is weather forecast in PARIS.
The scroll will show the information especially the highest temperature. After that, scroll will close itself, background change to raining, scroll open again, and now the information change to lowest temperature, to show that the lowest temperature is like that and it will be raining in Paris.

Second one is weather forecast in TOKYO.
Same, the scroll will show the information first, then it close itself, background change to have more fog, scroll open, show the lowest temperature.

Third one is weather in BEIJING.
Also same, sroll will show the information and the highest temperature, after that it will close itself, background change to more cold, and snow becomes more and more, then scroll open again, and this time it shows the lowest temperature.

Flash Game Design

Yup, this is our DIGITAL MEDIA 2 final project, create a survival game.
My game actually is a horror game, the name of it is "ALIVE".
Storyline: U are a children. One night, u wake up, realize that u r not in ur original house with ur family, u r in a horror house alone. U need to run out from the house as fast as u can, or else...hehehe

My game actually includes 4 small games, which are: maze, calling, moving thing, and finding key.
If u fail to complete one of these games, the "person" will appear to find u...

Movie Poster Design

One of my assignment is this--MOVIE POSTER DESIGN.
The movie title of our group is "MM-Lab2", then we have to design our own movie poster, each one, not each group.
The storyline of my movie:
I and few of my friends are new students in TOA(^^), then actually there is a place that we can't access in this college...a horror place--MM-Lab2(Multimedia Lab 2). Once a person go in, then sure got something would happen, then the person never come out anymore...So, we don't believe about that, we try to stay 1 night in this lab to prove that it won't happen although we go inside. But, after that night, I am the last survivor in the lab...and finally, I also died...

（首爾訊）中韓兩國又發生文化爭端，網路日前流傳一篇由韓國人執筆的英文文章，聲稱漢字是由韓國人發明，通篇充滿“大韓國”思想。網友將其翻譯成中文後被爭相轉寄，引發軒然大波，部分網友甚至憤怒揚言將抵制韓國貨和韓劇。

根據廣東《新快報》報導，這一篇文章刊登在一個漢語研究英文網站（www.chinalanguage.com）上。文章指出，商朝青銅器時代所發展的書寫系統，源自東部阿爾泰遊牧民族，而韓語正是阿爾泰語系。

文章舉“豬”字為例，左邊的部首包含“家”字下半部份，當時只有高麗人把豬養在屋子；又舉“日”字為矩形和裏面一點，“這個點代表著一隻金烏鴉，只有高麗人流傳過把太陽和金烏鴉聯繫起來的傳說。”

文章除討論漢字，還舉例韓國頗有成就的圍棋、足球、以及三星產品，並做出結論：“13億人的民族卻不能打敗一個5千萬人的小民族。”

中國網友痛批文章可能是韓國民族主義者所為，簡直就是“胡扯”，不過也有網友提醒，韓國近日一連串的文化正名動作，值得中國警惕。（星洲日報‧2006/10/25）

《本草纲目》是“韩国文化遗产”？

本人在韩国生活多年，所了解到的是韩国人根本就不认为韩医和中医有什么联系，他们认为韩医是伟大的韩国的祖先们智慧的结晶，是神话中的医圣流传下来的。而所谓的医圣其实就是中国人都知道的尝百草的神农氏，因为据近年来韩国学者的“考证”，神农氏是高丽人！甚至后世的李时珍也是高丽人！这就不难解释为什么韩国人把韩医、针灸、《本草纲目》都当作自己的文化遗产了。你要是和他们说“神农氏是华夏民族的祖先”、“李时珍估计一辈子都没到过朝鲜半岛”，他们会觉得你看不起他们是在侮辱他们的传统文化，所以我在韩国基本上不和他们争论任何有关这方面的话题。

而事实上你只要到韩国大邱的药材市场上走一走就知道这种韩医是韩国本土文化的论调是多么可笑了，那里的草药都用中文标明名称，绝大多数的药材也都是从中国进口的，因为韩医中百分之九十以上的药材的原产地都是在中国的，可是韩国人不管这个，药材只要到了韩国一律称为“韩草药”。在中国各大中医学院，有数以万计的韩国留学生在学习着中医课程，可是等这些人学成回国后，一律被称为“韩医师”，开出的中医药方也成了 “韩方”，在中国学习的针灸技术也成了“韩国传统针灸”，这些“韩医”在韩国是很受尊敬的，收入也很高。

另外，看到有不少人说道韩国的太极旗，也想说说这个。韩国人从小受的有关国旗的教育是这样的：1882年8 月,使臣朴泳孝和金玉筠奉王命赴日本谈判。途中,二人商议,作为一个国家的代表没有一面国旗是不行的,于是 ,他们依据韩国传统的太极图案设计了这样一面太极旗。这个所谓“灵机一动”的国旗诞生的故事在韩国是家喻户晓的。而为了证明太极图案是韩国人的传统文化，韩国政府进行了一系列的运作，包括宣称发现了一口上古时代的梵钟，上面已经有太极图案了，证明太极是高丽民族的智慧结晶，可是这么一口令韩国人骄傲的梵钟至今没公开露面过。

实际上，在中国近代的相关书籍中很容易找到关于韩国太极旗的来历。历史很清楚的记载了一切：1882年，朝鲜使臣朴泳孝和金玉筠即将出使日本，临行前向中国清朝北洋政府请求将中国的龙旗作为国旗使用，北洋政府回复称藩属国不能用五爪龙旗只能用四爪龙旗。由于当时朝鲜当局对日渐没落的清廷已经有些不买账了，所以接受清廷的要求。其时奉李鸿章之命出使朝鲜的中国使节马建忠（中国近代大语言学家，当时和其兄复旦大学创始人马相伯一起出使朝鲜）建议朝鲜政府采用中国传统的太极八卦旗作为国旗使用，这个建议得到了朝鲜政府的采纳，所以，最早的朝鲜国旗是一面不折不扣的白底黑色图案的太极八卦旗。后来，一名英国驻朝鲜的使节用西方美学的角度为这面太极八卦旗做了修改，去掉了八卦中的四卦，把剩下的四卦斜向对称拉伸，使整个国旗图案呈长方形，把阴阳鱼图案改为红蓝两色，这样才有了现在我们看到的韩国太极旗。

当然这面改进型的太极四卦旗的来历在韩国一定要被忽略掉，大韩民族的国旗怎么可以是两个外国人设计的？所以才有了那个“灵机一动”的版本。

有时候我觉得韩国人也很可怜的，他们不知道自己真正的历史是什么，他们脑中的历史完全是政府强加给他们的。近几十年来的飞速发展其实已经证明他们是一个伟大的民族了，他们完全可以籍此赢得世界的尊重，完全不需要靠伸手拿别国的历史文化来证明自己的伟大，这样做反而会被全世界所耻笑。

传韩国新版教科书：山东属于韩国孔子是韩国人!?
根据韩国的消息，韩国人已经在准备拿祭孔大典去申请世界文化遗产，下一步就是把孔子彻彻底底的变成韩国人了，中国的论坛上却还在为应不应该祭孔吵个不停，很多人对孔子极尽讽刺挖苦之能事。
9月28日，是孔子诞辰2557周年，大陆与台湾同时举行了祭孔大典。而在此前的9月26日，一组韩国祭孔大典的图片也成为各大门户网站的头条。抢在中国之前大规模宣传自己的祭孔活动，韩国人的用意又何在呢？

韩国人总是想把中华文化中的优秀成分据为己有，这已经不是第一天了。就在2005年，韩国已经将传承自中国的端午节申报世界文化遗产成功，成为所有中国人心头的痛。祭孔大典就是他们的下一个目标。
只要你仔细研究一下韩国人祭孔的资料，就会发现他们一直在强调正宗。看过韩国人的祭孔视频，再来对照中国的祭孔视频，大部分人都会得出韩国人的典礼好像更正统，更高尚的感觉。韩国人的祭孔好像总和中国的对着干，你们穿满清的长袍马褂，我就穿正统的汉服；你们的仪式变来变去没有定式，我们却遵循的是古礼一成不变；你们在文革中将孔子批倒批臭，我们却尊孔几百年不变；你们的祭孔大典往往是政府主导活动，我们的祭孔却是二百多所乡校同时进行的全国性活动！

韩国人的目的很明确，就是要让人觉得只有他们才是祭孔的正统，只有他们才最有资格祭祀孔子。然后就可以拿他们几百年历史的祭孔大典去申请世界文化遗产！
相比之下前两年中国的祭孔确实让人有点寒心，猪屁股对着孔子的笑话，长袍马褂太监装的闹剧等等，层出不穷。今天的祭孔幸好有五粮液这样实力雄厚有儒商思想的企业相助，才不致于出现以前祭孔由于没钱而租京剧戏装的窘境，用五粮液祭酒也确实符合中国五谷祭祀的正统，“杯底五谷杯上液”的礼制。然而韩国在国际上对祭孔的推广已经走在了前面，而且在过去的年代中国对孔子文化的毁坏也确实令人寒心，这使我们在韩国人面前总显得低人一头。

韩国人觊觎孔子不是一天两天了，在一本韩国历史教科书的插图上，中国的东北，山东都成为历史上韩国的地盘！山东都是韩国的人，山东人孔子也就理所当然是山东人。在这本韩国教科书里，“镇压了处于农耕文化的汉人”，“惩罚大唐的战争”等语句随处可见，我们总是将注意力集中日本人的修改教科书事件上，却没注意到韩国人干起这种事来也是很在行。

韩国人论证孔子是韩国人还有这样的论据：朝鲜半岛最早建立政权的是商朝贵族箕子。箕子是商朝纣王的亲戚，西周武王伐纣。箕子不愿意接受西周统治。于是率领5000名商朝人逃跑到朝鲜半岛和辽东半岛，建立了政治难民国家—箕子朝鲜。而商朝大部分人都留在了中国，分布在西周封建的宋卫等多个国家。宋国的第一个国君就是箕子的亲戚—微子。孔子是宋国贵族后代，当然也就是韩国祖宗箕子的后代了。

在中国人看来，这种八竿子才打的着的关系，无疑可笑又可耻，但对于看这种历史教科书长大的韩国人来说，无疑是天经地义。所以将祭孔大典申请世界文化遗产才会得到这么多韩国人的支持，韩国人才会理直气壮的发出“孔子是我们的”的豪论了。

篡改历史是第一步，将祭孔大典申遗是第二步，接下来就是给国际社会造成孔子真的是韩国人的印象，最终目的是达到韩国才是亚洲文化的渊源所在，韩国文明哺育了包括中国在内的东亚文明！

然而这时我们中国人在干什么？在网上就该不该祭孔吵的不亦乐乎，而总有那一部分中国人，热衷于用各种不堪的语言来讽刺挖苦孔子和儒家文化。从文革打倒孔家店到现在，我们又有什么资格说，比起韩国，我们的儒家文化更为正统更为全民？

不肖子孙要将祖宗拱手送给外国人了，孔子的灵魂在天上痛哭失声。

FLASH animation--"Save The Earth"

Got a long time I didn’t update my blog dy, because I got a course for driving that I should attend. Just finished my UJIAN this morning (past dy~~), so now feel free to update my blog—post my artworks.
First one is my FLASH animation project. Theme for this animation is “save the earth”. Under this theme, we were required to design an animation for project 1 & 2. So, my concept is “the only place”, talk about our living place is becoming smaller and smaller because of us—human. We cut down the trees, burn the unimportant parts of the threes, and so on. These actions cause many problems like global warming and so on happen slowly, forest—living place for all animals living in jungle—become smaller, ice mountains—the living place for penguins—become smaller, lands—our living place—also become smaller. This is just like an, what we do, all will effect back on us.
Because the size of my animation is too big that it will take for a long time for loading, so here I just show my interface design for this animation (project 3).

our typography final project is about using a font that we found and would like to do, then design it as a poster to introduce the font.
actually we need to set a concept for the font. My concept is"The Movie Font"
why?
Because nowadays almost the western movies like "Titanic", "The Last House On The Left" and so on, they like to use "TRAJAN" as their title font.

in my board game, I choose "Cow and Chicken" as my mascot, and the client is "Dutch Lady", the product I promote is "TT-Ratio Advance".

My target audiance is the children between 4-6 years old, so I design my board game in two different colour set which are bright blue colour and pink colour.

here start from loading page, then main page, and 2 web pages which are having 2 different part of the story.

here you can make a choice, whether her husband should go for the service or not. Different options have a different result.

姐叫我随她回婆婆家过元宵

曾答应了婆婆有时间就回去的

收拾了两件衣服

就起程了

两小时的车程

姐说了很多

到家了

进屋和婆婆打招呼时

发现婆婆在厨房里

扶着桌边

地抹横卧在地板上

我愣住了

明白发生什么事

立即叫婆婆休息

地板由我来抹

婆婆就快80了

行动有些不便

平时走路极慢，需要扶把

最不应该的是

家里除了早出晚归的堂哥之外

就没有人照顾她了。。。

告诉姐刚才的事后

我和姐都无言

姐都告诉我说

隔壁邻居（亦是我们的亲戚）

都会过来陪婆婆聊天

平时早上只要婆婆稍微迟一些开门

他们都会害怕

。。。

隔天

三叔有回来

我们准备了东西祭拜祖先

之后我就忙着做功课了

突然觉得这里充满了小时候的味道

婆婆照顾我的味道。。。

一直以来
很多人都说
超级星光大道作弊，作假
越看越气，越看越不想看了
一堆劣评如浪潮一再汹涌

当初看到这些评语时
我还不以为然
以为是他们多心了
我不以为意
继续着我对星光的热潮

直到最近才重看
因为之前没时间的关系而没有如期去追看的星光3总决赛
看完了之后
我整个心是凉的
制作单位的做作，作假
在节目中一览无遗
五强之中
除了徐佳莹之外
其他四强的分数都是表演完之后当场给的
只有徐佳莹的分
是需要五位评审去讨论之后才给的
为什么呢？
因为林芯仪的表演有目共睹，是非常好的
徐佳莹的表演很明显略胜一筹
可是他们是要让徐佳莹赢的
所以需要开个会
让其他不知内情的评审也帮帮忙
让徐佳莹夺冠
而且从他们给评语的口气
就已经可以很明显的知道
他们是在赛前就已经决定好冠军人马是谁
是在偏袒徐佳莹了
我不是针对徐佳莹
只是顾名思义这是一场比赛
制作单位包括主持人都一再强调这个节目的公正性
一再说明他们没有做作
如果没有做作的话
那何来这些搞笑的举动呢？
难怪舒淇看了直播之后也非常生气地对roger说她以后拒看星光了
到了这里
我只是觉得他们好好笑
他们的正直一刹那变得狼狈不堪，一文不值

看完了总决赛
对这个节目失望至极
或许
观众的看法是对的
这个比赛只能当作综艺节目来看
它已经完全地失去了原本的初衷
也或许
是我太笨了
一直都在相信他们的正直

只是很遗憾
芯仪的努力
被虚伪的正直抹杀了

1)cat

Ya, actually I like cat most of the time.I have never said that I also like to act like a spoiled child but sometimes i really need a warm embrace when i feel stressful or sadly. When other people is not free I will just go away and do my things. I do not like to do something that will make other people feel annoyed.

2)fish

If I remember correctly, fish's memory will be changed in every 30 seconds, that means when 30 seconds are gone, they will think that all the fish around them is considered a group of new friends. They will feel happy for having a "new environment" and a group of "new friends" in every 30 seconds, and they will also forget their stress or trouble which they faced before at the same time. I hope that I can forget all the trouble in the certain time. All worst things can run out from my mind when I feel stressful. Another reason that I choose fish as one of the things representing me is because I seldom talking, just like the fish, will not talk anymore at all the time.

3）Anemonefish

no, just sometimes scare to do something like catch mouse...-_-!!!

so, I love cat at all...

4)viola

Actually I had the experience of taking part in string society when I was in secondary school. I like the atmosphere or even the feeling when I was sitting in the orchestra while we had some public performances. I practiced and improved my viola skill until I graduated from secondary school. I really like to play this kind of instrument.

5)FISH LEONG

Ya, Fish Leong.

Those who know me will also properly know that I am her fans. I really like her songs and her live performance! Bravo!

6)drawing

Besides sleeping(hehe), listening and playing music, I also like to draw(include design). This habit is build when I was young. I feel more freedom when I forcus on my drawing, I will not feel any stressful thinking around me. Sometimes, I can even spend a whole day time to just paint an art work, but I will not complain at all. That's why I come to THE ONE to study and choose this as my main career in the future.

7)bird

As normal young generation, I really want or even need some freedom and private spaces to live. I have my things to do, have my own target to achieve. I don’t want to be a puppet, always is controlled by the other people’s thinking.

8)Chinese calligraphy

Since I was in secondary school, I realized that Chinese traditional culture is quite interesting. I learned this Chinese calligraphy for quite 6 years, and also won a lot of prizes during these years. Besides drawing, practice Chinese calligraphy is one of the things that I can feel more relax on it when I am free.

9)shell

Like a shell, I will protect myself all the time; will not let other people to hurt me so heavy. Or say in another way,I will not show my vulnerable side of heart to other people. If open the shell, you will find out that actually I am not as strong as you see. Sometimes, I also need a warm embrace as well.

10)mimosa

Ya, this actually can represent me completely, shy,shy, and also shy again. Don't ask me. I also do not know why. hehehe.
